Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
This is one of my favorites movies, though I have to admit it took me a second watch years after my first time to really get into it.
What really captured me was the intimate feeling of peeking into what Joel and Clementine's relationship looked like,
the ups and downs, the good and the bad, but especially Joel's thought process, the slow realization that the memories were worth the suffering of remembering them.
I personally interpret the ending as a new and better beginning for their relationship, from a place of understanding and acceptance of the pain that any relationship may bring
but still wanting to try it out, and to try to do better.
Everything Everywhere All At Once
I've watched this movie an embarrassing amount of times, during some time I'd just watch it every time I felt sad.
I personally find it interesting how they used the concept of alternate realities to send out the message that perhaps its not the situation that we live in that makes us incapable of being happy, but our view on it.
By that I mean the constantly thinking that if we had done something differently in the past we would be happier today, we would be in a better place.
I do have to admit it might not be for everyone because of how fast the mood of the story changes throughout.
La La Land
For some reason I love this kind of movie where the main characters don't end up together, horror movies some people say lol.
The visuals were especially appealing to me, so colorful and very moody. The songs are really nice and I personally think they did a great job with when to place them without making them look out of place.
A part of me does wish they had ended up together though, but I do agree that our goals and dreams should come in first and any person who
loves you will want to see you reach them even if you are no longer by their side.
The Secret of Moonacre
I sort of, kind of liked it...? Well, most of all I liked the characters' outfits (especially Maria's dresses), Maria's room and the general vibe lmao, I'm a sucker for all things
whimsy, but plotwise it was pretty bland, nothing really stood out to me in that aspect.
I was also kind of expecting a romance between Maria and Robin but that never happened, apparently the book it was based on did include a romance with them
but they removed it for the movie because the actress for Maria was a minor and Robin's was already an adult, which okay, respectable, that was the best decision they could've made in that regard and it really isn't like a bit of romance was going to make the movie more interesting anyway.
I think I might give the book a read, it's probably better than the movie, as they usually are. If you're interested it's called "The little white horse" by Elizabeth Goudge.
Amores Perros
Intentionally painful watch, I honestly didn't know who to root for because some of the character's love stories were based on infidelity
and well, let's just say I'm not a fan of that, and the others were... murderers ig.
But yeah, I think the intention of the movie was to potray love stories that were just not meant to end well. We got two "romantic" stories, and two about familial love, that somehow get entangled with eachother through a car accident half-way through, and by entangled I don't mean
that all the characters reunite and meet, I mean that that car accident impacts all of their lives.
To me the presence of dogs was meant to potray the presence (or absence, in the case of the two brothers in the last part) of love and also kind of like plot devices...?
I think it was a good movie, though I'm not sure I'd watch it again.
